Help Wanted!

by Erica Layne on July 18, 2012

I always like hearing your opinions; today I need them. Two simple questions – I’d love for you to take a minute to answer!

1. Why do you read Let Why Lead?

2. What kind of posts do you like most, and why?

FYI, my most regular categories are motherhood, marriage maintenance, and home design, with some food and style thrown in there too.

I can’t tell you how much your input would mean to me. Sometimes it can be hard to see the big picture when you’re in the middle of it, and your thoughts would tremendously help me know where to take this little venture in the future. Thank you!

Erica,

I look forward to receiving your blog updates in my RSS feed every day. I have been reading for a few months now. I read “Let Why Lead” because your perspective on life is so simple, so refreshing in the midst of this chaotic, consumer-driven world. I read because I like your style, both of writing and in decor! I read because you write honestly about your own struggles, and offer common-sense advice from those life lessons to the rest of us. I read because I am a young(ish) married Christian woman, and love what you have to say for us!

I love your DIY segments, your marital advice segments, and your Salsa Chicken Soup is o my menu plan for next week. :)

Thank you for your voice!

Thank you so much, Abbigail! (I love your name, btw!) It is SO helpful to see if what I’m trying to convey and what I’m trying offer my readers is actually coming across. “Simple and refreshing”—and real—is just what I’m going for, so thank you!

Hope you like the soup!

I read for a few reasons. One, because I know you and think you’re fantastic. Two, because I love the idea of “let why lead”, and living an authentic life. I love how open and honest you are. Three, because I love the advice that you give in regards to strengthening marriage. And four, you make really adorable printables :)

I guess I kind of answered the second question, but I love your posts on marriage maintenance, home design, and anytime you write about how things aren’t always exactly perfect. I read a lot of blogs, and sometimes I feel like everyone has a perfect life with a perfect home and a perfect marriage. I like how real you are.

You’re amazing, and I look forward to reading in the future!

I found you through Imparting Grace and am typically drawn to perspectives on faith. I don’t follow craft, home or design blogs. HOWEVER, I do like them sprinkled through and thus one of the reasons why I follow your blog. Not sure if that helps. Sounds like you are attempting to “brand” yourself? I work in the publishing industry and understand that. It’s possible to have it all, but to keep a few similar topics front and center. I think it would be nice to have your living authentically through your marriage, parenting, everyday life be the main content, but in the context of you and your home as a welcoming place. Not sure if I am really communicating what I’m trying to say. I think you have a lot of things that could overlap, but still allow you to be crafty on your blog without losing deep content. ok, I’m done now. :)

I love reading your blog for many reasons, the biggest being I get to catch up on what is going on with your family! What did we ever do before cell phones, texting, and blogs where we can attach photos for family to see? I love it! I also love your recipes, your love for pretty things and spaces (me too!), and your perspectives on motherhood, womanhood, and being a wife. I think you are doing a great job with the blog, keep it up! If you ever want to swap and do a guest post, I am more than willing. Let me know!

Love,
Brittney

I totally understand the feeling of losing the big picture when it comes to blogging. I have to step back and re-evaluate Newlywed’s Bliss purpose, and figure out if I’m really accomplishing what I want to be.

I’m really new to your blog, but I love the idea of letting Why lead, living an authentic life, and the way you tell stories :)

I agree with everyone else who said that your perspective on live and your authenticity is what keeps me coming back. I love how you communicate your love for your family, your home, and your life… struggles and all.

As for particular posts, I like reading your perspective on marriage and parenting. I think you have a good thing going though; and by that, I mean the way you alternate “deep” topics and “light” topics.

I really admire your dedication to intentional, authentic living. This is something I desperately want to incorporate this into my blog (thus, into my life) more. Your blog encourages me to slow down and remember what matters most!

Definitely motherhood, life, marriage. But mostly motherhood. I love looking at pictures of your home, though home decor is way beyond my husband’s willingness to spend money. Ha!
I love your blog! I wish I had the ideas, resources and motivation to write my own that would be just as compelling.

Additionally, I like the “let why lead” angle of your entire blog – living a life with meaning and purpose . I really liked your first post that talked about that.

Erica,

I enjoy that you’re a very thoughtful parent. I guess I relate to your philosophy of Letting Why Lead! Too many people drift through life without reflecting, and you’re not one of them, hence the topic of this post :)

I also really enjoy your beautiful photography! I would love to read more of your Stories Make Life Shine essays.

This is a question I find difficult to answer for any blogger I love. I read because there’s something authentic, something I connect with, and I feel that I am getting to know the person behind the screen. I also like that you live in the Bay Area, like I do :), so I am always hoping to get ideas on things to do with my kids. I love your photography, and the appearance of your blog is welcoming and inviting- it kinda just hooked me in!

I haven’t been following for very long, so I can’t really speak to your question directly. (Though you did refer me to a great pulled pork recipe — thanks!)
As a fellow blogger, I think we all hit a point where we’re ready to regroup and/or want to connect better with our readers. That’s a good thing. But ultimately, I think we need to keep writing what our hearts tell us to write. Keep being true to yourself!

Erica,
(sorry if this is a dupe – I wrote you a long comment and the screen went blank!)
Anyway, I want you to know that I love reading your thoughts on motherhood and marriage. You really speak from your heart and are not afraid to acknowledge the struggles as well as the good times. I really feel like I know you from reading your blog. I also love your style and enjoy your decorating posts too. It can be hard to figure out what direction to take a blog in. Just write what you enjoy and I am sure you will have many people reading regularly! Originally, I thought my blog would be more geared towards travel and beachy decor but here I am blabbing about the dog and what I did with my kids every week! Oh well… Have a nice weekend!
